t7766′s Full Review of ANPAC Auto Insurance Company

ANPAC seems to be a good company, the agent is friendly and knows his stuff, and their cash back after three years claim free on home and auto coverage is 25% of premium. I also checked out their Best insurance rating and they were given a rating of A+ which is very good. They have only been in the auto and home market for 25yrs. so they aren’t as well known as Allstate or Farmers, but they have been in the Life insurance field for many years and are very stable company. They also offer a 15% discount on premiums if you put your home, auto, life with them, which seemed to me very generous.

We had ANPAC for 2 years and had no problems. Chose them because their home rates were so low. Then we bought a new car and got married at the same time and ANPAC couldn’t deal with getting all of these changes right. We were first quoted $200 less than we “should have” been, as we learned when the first statement arrived. Then, because their system wouldn’t accept a name change without another change, the person handling this decided to change our address temporarily, which led to a new higher rate. She then forgot to change it back. It was a comedy of errors. We finally just left for another company since we were afraid of what would happen if we actually had a claim!

chief-quanah’s Full Review of ANPAC Auto Insurance Company

tarted with ANPAC in 2001 when I bought a house, the rates were great at the time and they had the 25% rebate program for those with no claim after 3 years. Well, before my first year was up they had discontinued the rebate program. Then in Jan 2002 I was involved in an accident which was not my fault. Went through arbitration via ANPAC the people were great and we won the case the other driver was deemed 100% at fault. They assured me that the claim (since it was paid in full by the other party) would not affect my rates when I renewed. WOW was I wrong!!! Upon my next renewal my rates went up by almost $60 per month from $132 to $191. I then purchased a new car this month and bang my rates are going up another $27 per month. I had a previous quote from another company (USAA) before I bought the new vehicle and it was for $120 per month after changing that quote to include the new vehicle my rate will only go up by $3 per month. I consistently insure at least 2 vehicles and am doing so in this case.
For four months now I have been calling my agent, only to get his secretary, and leaving messages requesting a review but have gotten no response. At this point I have to say “Goodbye” to ANPAC and return to USAA. I should never have left in the first place.

Second I also have a homeowners policy and have had no claims in 2.5 years. during that time my rates have jumped by about 50% only because they say that other claims for “mold” caused them to lose money as all insurers in Texas have claimed. To keep a long story short, “hello again USAA”.

Jennfa’s Full Review of Arbella Mutual Auto Insurance Group

I have used Arbella Mutual insurance now for over six years, and they have been a wonderful company to deal with. I (well, actually my husband) has had several minor accidents and each time we contacted them, they were easy to deal with, quick to process my claim and better still, quick to send out the checks.

Their claims reps are well trained (I have dealt with several and all have been great) and friendly. The only issue I have with them is that they recently lowered their “Good Driver discount”, which I get since my hubby had all the accidents. This almost caused me to go with another company, however when I thought about the service, and talked to others about the lousy service they had received from others, I decided that I could live without the discount in order to keep the customer service.

tree0164′s Full Review of Arbella Mutual Auto Insurance Group

My husband and I have been customers of Arbella Mutual Insurance for several years. Arbella Mutual insurance offers personal insurance from homeowners to car to umbrella policies. My husband and I only have our two cars insured through them. We had been pleased with their premium prices and claims process.

Within the past couple of years, my husband and I had gotten into several car accidents. None of these accidents were our fault since both accidents happened where we were hit in the back. The claims process was very easy. We submitted the claims paperwork, had our cars checked and evaluated by one of their inspectors. Within several weeks we got our checks. However that is not the reason I am writing this review.

My husband and I had to traveled out of the country for personal reasons. We knew that we would be out of contact for atleast 4 weeks. We prepaid all of our bills including our car insurance. I write a separate check for my insurance and a separate check for my husband’s policy. Account numbers are clearly written on each check. However I put them in the same envelope. This is what I do each and every month and have never had a problem.

We arrived home after being out of the country for 5 weeks on August 6th. I am sorting through all of my mail and come across several different envelopes from Arbella. I received a notice of cancellation for my husband’s car insurance that it would cancel July 29; this was August 7th. I had my husband go down to our insurance agent. Our insurance agent is an independent agent, but not employed by Arbella. He can sell more than one company’s insurance.

It appears that my husband car insurance payment was applied against my policy. We asked if this could be fixed and have that money applied toward my husband and reinstate the insurance. Unfortunately, Arbella would not budge on this even though they applied the money to the wrong policy. They said they sent out statement, which they did. However, we tried to appeal to them on a personal level. We were out of town for five weeks. They would not hear of it. In order to reinstate the insurance, we have to open a brand new contract. I do understand that they are legal reason for this.

In opening a brand new contract this is where things really go downhill. We have to pay 50% of our premium upfront since this was a canceled contract. My husband signs the paperwork and has a receipt dated August 7th. We think that everything is okay. We now have insurance on my husband car or so we thought.

My husband is driving for an appointment for his brand new job on September 8th. He gets caught speeding. (No he should have been speeding, but that is besides the fact). The police officer informs him that his car is unregistered effective August 30th because he has no auto insurance on this car. They impound his car and he calls me to pick him up. I scoop up my young son and we head out to this street corner to get my husband.

No one seems to know what happened either at our independent agent office or at Arbella. Talk about passing the buck back and forth. The agent did not submit the paperwork properly and we rejected it to someone was on vacation and the paperwork is sitting on his desk. I really did not care about back office problems. However they cashed our check! We just wanted to get our car properly insured and get our car back.

It was a long couple of days getting everything straighten out. The independent agent’s office did give us money to get the car out of impoundment and did give us a receipt for that. They put the insurance in effect as of August 7th and got the car registration back. However, my husband did have to go to court because driving an uninsured car is a considered a crime. Luckily he did have the receipt that the agent’s assistant gave him because according to the judge that constitutes blame and the charges were dropped.

The moral of the story is that good customer service could have avoided my family some major league inconveniences. Customers really do not care about “who is at fault” they just want their expectations met. My expectations would have been met if they properly set up the policy on August 7th and did not have to deal with the hassle. When our policies come up for renewal, my husband and I will select another independent agent to do business with as well another insurance company.

mikeg212′s Full Review of Arbella Mutual Auto Insurance Group

Recently my car was stolen from my office parking lot while working late one night. I promptly reported the theft to the police and to Arbella. I sent in all my paper work. I knew I had to wait for 30 days or for the car to be recovered. That certainly seemed reasonable. However, my car was recovered about 3 weeks ago. Arbella was notified and they promptly sent an adjuster to the yard where the car was towed and assessed the damage. The claims specialist called the next day and gave me the settlement figure, which was reasonable and fair also. She stated they just had to get my case approved and a check would be forthcoming, which was good news since I have spent about $900 out of my pocket for rentals and the police towing and storage. However, my check failed to appear and I called the claims specialist again, she said my claim was forwarded to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU). She gave me the contact name and I called the guy. His voice mail said he was out of the office for a few days. I left a message. when I did not receive a callback after the SIU agent returned to the office I called again. Straight to voice mail, left another message. I finally got a hold of him in person a week or so later and he said that he would have to look into things and get back to me. Never Did. I called again, and he said he was not sure why he had the case and said he as a call into the regular claim department. I called them and they don’t know a thing.. They told me to call the SIU agent again. The car has been recovered for 3 weeks, inspected, and towed out of the storage yard. But I have yet to receive any inkling why I can’t get my money. By the way the total is a whooping $1900.00 I am being treated like a criminal. If only some one could tell me what the deal was and how long it was going to take I would be happy.

winger58’s Full Review of Prudential Financial, Inc. Auto Insurance

I’ve been a customer with Prudential for 20 years. What impresses me most is whenever I’ve had an auto accident (only a few!) I’ve only had to make one phone call to Prudential. They took care of everything! One phone call and I picked up my car at the repair shop a few days later, that’s it! Then the amazing part. A month later I get a check for a refund on my deductible. They sued the other party’s insurance company (no fault state), and after settling the case, they sent me my refund, every time! The best was the most recent accident when a tractor-trailer ran a stop sign and slammed into me. Again, one phone call. However the agent informed me that the auto I was driving (one of two on the policy) was not the one covered by the “towing rider.” I checked my policy, and sure enough, the rider was only put on one car (veh #2). When I told the agent, “why would I get the rider and only put it on one car, thus taking the chance that that car would be the one to be in an accident?”, the agent on the phone agreed that it was probably a misunderstanding at the time the policy was made out. Even though I never paid for the rider on the vehicle in the accident, they immediately agreed to cover the tow bill! That is incredible customer service. I get telemarketing calls all the time from insurance companies wanting me to switch. I tell them all the same thing, “You’ll have to beat Prudential’s rates by 50% before I’ll consider switching. I won’t switch just to save $20.00!

Prudential continues to be the lowest price car ins. for me. I have 2 sons and 1 daughter,as well as the wife and I on this policy. At times I have shopped around for comparative policies, and some companies will tell me “out front” that they can’t compete with Prudential”s prices. We currently have 6 vehicles, with full coverage on 4 of them(two 98′s,one 95 ,and one 93)and pay around $2100 every 6 months. That may seem high, but with 2 teenagers and my 21 yr. old son having had 2 accidents and one ticket, I know by comparison, this is a good price.
Service has always been prompt, always settling claims within 2 weeks.

I had so many different insurance companies and all of them are just too lazy to do their job. I had 2 accidents in the past 5 years, with my other insurance companies I had to call to report an accident and no one would really respond to me. With Safeco I have been there for 6 months and had my second accident in January (the road was too slippery from the ice). I have called Safeco and their agents were really nice, they recorded everything and gave me the claim #, and told me to relax and everythng will be done for me. 30 minutes later another agent called and explained everything to me that I needed to know, and offered me a rental car (included in my policy) and told me to just relax and wait for estimator to come over and take a look at all the damages that was made to my car. He came in 2 days. Check the car and gave an estimate of the damage. After 2 more days I recieved a good amount to fix my car. And after my car was fixed, I have returned the rental and only paid for the tax. That was the best insurance company I have ever had.

I used another auto insurance carrier for years before switching to Safeco.  I have been *very* pleased with the customer service, rates and claim payout with Safeco. Safeco even gives me easy options of how to pay my bill – without any extra charges added on. My Safeco agent is always very patient with me when explaining the different types of coverage and is also very helpful at suggesting what type of coverage amounts I should have. My old carrier was happy to have me majorly over-insure my vehicle. But when I switched to Safeco my agent readily pointed out that I was very over-insured for my vehicle, assets and income level. My Safeco agent did a great job at helping me determine my insured amounts at levels that keep me plenty covered – and it even helped my rates drop! With such good rates and service I always recommend Safeco when friends and family are looking for auto insurance. (and please keep in mind I don’t give compliments easily.)

Right off the start, I will confess my epinion is biased because I’ve worked for SAFECO for over 9 years. This does make me qualified to say that SAFECO lives by its core values of discipline, integrity, diligence, empathy and decency. I’ve experienced this as an employee and as an insured.

Check the news and see how many other insurance companies are being sued for deceptive practices, poor repair practices, or not covering valid claims and you will understand why it is important to be insured by a company you can trust. As the adage goes: “You get what you pay for!”

You can find out more information about SAFECO at SAFECO.com or contact your local friendly independent agent.

MissDawn’s Full Review of PEMCO Mutual Auto Insurance Company

My parents had been with Pemco insurance since the early seventies, for all their insurance needs. That is why I was insured through them when I got my license when I was 16. I have now been insured with them for over 13 years, and I have only had great service. Every couple of years or so I have checked with other insurance companies in my area (State Farm, Farmers Insurance, Geico), and have never found their rates to come anywhere close to Pemcos. When I was 19, I received 2 speeding tickets within 6 months of each other, and my rates were never affected. I have submitted 2 claims, for uninsured motorists, and have received quick service and payment. My rates were never raised as a result of these claims either. This company has given me absolutely wonderful service and I can’t find any other insurance company that even comes close to their rates. Many members of my family have insurance with Pemco, and they are also very happy with the service. I recommend this company to others, I am very happy with Pemco.

Beckish’s Full Review of PEMCO Mutual Auto Insurance Company

I have been obtaining my automobile insurance through Pemco for approximately the past nine years. During that time I have dealt with them over three accidents.

The first time was when I hit black ice on the roadway and ended up in the ditch, severely damaging the side of my van. The second time, I was rear-ended on the freeway. Sounds scary, but fortunately it was during one of the frequent periods of road construction in Spokane and the speed was very low.

And last weekend, my car was struck in a grocery store parking lot. Frankly I was dreading calling Pemco, because it was a hit and run accident and I had no idea who the other party was. I was sure I was going to end up with an incredible amount of red tape and paperwork to deal with and I wasn’t looking forward to it.

I called my insurance agent, who was very sympathetic and helpful. He gave me the number for the claims department and made sure I knew my policy number. He also made a point of going over my coverage with me so I would know exactly what I was looking at.

Talking to the claims department was another very pleasant experience. The woman who handled my claim was professional and very pleasant. She made the whole process quite bearable and as easy on me as possible. I was pleased to find out that Pemco has certain repair specialists they deal with on a regular basis, which made it even easier.

A few minutes later I was set. The claims representative said she would notify the repair specialist I had chosen and that they would contact me to set up an appointment for the repairs. She went over my coverage with me in detail and I was quite relieved to find that I would be given a rental car while my car was being repaired. (This benefit was covered under the Underinsured Motorists part of my coverage).

On the whole, I have never had a bad experience with Pemco. Each time I have contacted them they have gone above and beyond, ensuring that my issues were handled quickly and professionally. Having had more than one bad experience with insurance companies, dealing with Pemco is actually quite pleasant. They go out of their way to make a difficult situation as easy as possible, something I deeply appreciate.

Pros

Excellent customer service. I have yet to find another company that provides as good of customer service as Pemco. Their representatives and agents are polite, respectful, pleasant, and very helpful.

Pemco’s rates are reasonable. They provide good driver discounts as well as multiple car discounts, a nice benefit. Especially considering I have a daughter who will be eligible to get her driver’s license the beginning of March.

Speedy service. Pemco doesn’t mess around. When my car was rear-ended, they had someone out to assess the damage the next day. The last auto insurance company I had could take several weeks to perform this task.

Cons

Hmmmm. Well, after all these years I have not been able to find a negative thing to say about Pemco. And I have yet to hear a negative story from anyone I know.

Bottom Line

I have had nothing but good experiences with Pemco, and I highly recommend them. If your auto insurance is coming due, be sure to give Pemco a call. I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the benefits of carrying your coverage through them, and if you ever have to file a claim my experiences indicate that the situation will be as positive as possible under the circumstances.

wmscott’s Full Review of PEMCO Mutual Auto Insurance Company

I have been insured by PEMCO for over 15 years. I currently have several cars, a motorhome and my home insured through PEMCO. In the past I also had a boat and trailer insured through PEMCO. My experiences with the company have been mixed.
On a homeowners claim for a break in and theft the company responded quickly. This was at a time when there was major storm damage in the region and my claim was very small (I replaced the broken back door myself) so I think this added to their desire to process it quickly.
I had earth quake insurance through PEMCO but received a letter from the company to the effect they had determined there was a possibility of an earthquake in the area so they were doubling the rates and raising the deductible. When I called to cancel the earthquake coverage I was told I would not be able to ever get that type of coverage through them again if I cancelled! I don’t like being threatened by a company I have paid tens of thousands of dollars to with very few claims (a total of one $700 home owners claim in 15 years).
My experience with their auto coverage is equally mixed. Generally they have been fair and responsive. However, I find their claims service to be somewhat inconvenient (they have closed many of the outlying claims offices in the Seattle area and you need to take the car downtown). Also there does not seem to be a single individual responsible to manage your claim. You have to deal with multiple people who appear not to communicate on a frequent basis which adds to the stress of getting back to normal after an accident.
The convenience of making changes to your policies is superior. They have very extended hours for their customer service phone lines and their customer service agents are always knowledgeable and courteous.
As far as price – they seem to be highly competitive for low risk drivers and the boat and homeowners policies are a very good value (except for earthquake coverage).

sox’s Full Review of Farmers Auto Insurance Group

We have been with Farmers Insurance for at least 20 years. And for the most part have been very happy with there services. When we were looking for insurance for our daughters when they were beginning to drive the Farmers agent we had at the time was very helpful and helped us get the most affordable rate and we as parents with teenage kids know that this is sometimes a difficult task when it comes to car insurance.

I am not saying that Farmers is the lowest, but they seem to be about the fairest of some to these companies around. Who may have a lower rate but watch out when the kid gets a ticket or an accident even if it is not there fault. The rates will be hiked up so high they can’t see up or they will drop the kid altogether.

Farmers insurance does have a discount for grades, also they used to give a discount if the kid takes drivers education, no smokers also. I feel that they have some pretty competitive standards as an insurance company.

I did have a problem one time with the main office in California one time but the matter was taken care of within a couple of days by our office here and an apology was given to us which is not done to often so I feel that unless something drastic happens we will probably stay with Farmers Insurance.

I live in southern California and in traffic conditions like I’m in, I put my faith and trust in Farmers Insurance. I have tried several of the ‘newer’ insurance companies in order to save ten dollars a month but I’ve always returned to Farmers. I like the idea of actually having an agent and knowing who I’m talking to on the phone when I have a claim or question. Farmers’ insurance Company has been around since the early 1920′s and have established an excellent reputation in that time for quick and easy claim handling and personal one on one service. The only downside to Farmers Insurance is that their prices are slightly higher than several of the large competitors out there, but I’ve found that if you combine policies together, you actually end up saving a considerable amount of money, not to mention the peace of mind.

Char64’s Full Review of Farmers Auto Insurance Group

Farmers insurance company is by far the best insurance company I’ve ever had dealings with. I’ve had policies with four other companies over the years and for one reason or another I was not satisfied with the service. With Farmers I can get in contact with my agent when I need to without feeling like I’m in a circus. Their rates are by far less than many other companies I inquired about when looking. For me they are easier to work with and seem to take a more personal approach. I have auto and renters insurance with them, which means they give me a discount for multiple policies.(Every little penny helps.) If there is a problem with my account they contact me by phone immediately, as well as by mail, so it can be resolved as soon as possible. From my experience dealing with Farmers, I will not be changing companies anytime in the near future.

Yalum85’s Full Review of The Wawanesa Mutual Auto Insurance Company

I’m so happy I listened to my wife this time! She first heard about Wawanesa Insurance from a TV consumer advocate. Because the name was unknown to me, I hesitated. However, when their quote was about $400 less than what we were paying, we signed up!

Our Experience
We’ve had two claims in about 9 years. This is how Wawanesa handled them. First, while parked at a donut shop, the guy next to me pulled out, scraping his truck along the side of our station wagon. After I got him to apply his brakes, he first apologized for not having a mirror to see with, then he placed the blame on me for parking crooked, and he left! When I reported it to Wawanesa, the agent was very concerned for me, took the man’s license plate number, and gave me a location where I could get my car inspected. She told me they would fix my car and then go after the guy in the truck because it was considered a hit-and-run. Wow! How easy!

My second experience tops that, though! Late at night, I hit a tire that was rolling down the fast lane in a dark stretch of the freeway. Within a day or so, I received a call at work from an adjuster who said he’d come to my work to see the car. He called me later from the parking lot of my workplace. I went out, met him, showed him the damage, and he wrote me a check for $900+ on the spot! I went around for the rest of the day telling everyone how great my insurance company was (I showed them the check, too!). The best part was that my rates didn’t get hiked up, either!

To be covered, you must have a VERY good driving record! They won’t risk a lot, but if that keeps my rates down, I’m happy! They don’t have agents to give you quotes over the phone. You must call and request a form, then you mail it back with all the information. They send you quote after that. Believe me, it’s worth it! I’ve told several friends about Wawanesa, and every one of them that has qualified (some I was even surprised at!), has come back and THANKED me for telling them. Everyone has saved at least $100.

We’re still with Wawanesa, and plan to stay there.

itzkevin00′s Full Review of The Wawanesa Mutual Auto Insurance Company

In March I bought a car so I needed to find obtain insurance ASAP as the insurance I had from the dealer was basically the minimum required liability and property damage coverage required by California law. Also this was my first time purchasing car insurance so I knew my quotes would be high.
I went online to get some quotes and I also went to Wawanesa’s site to fill out the form so they could mail me some quotes. A few days later the quotes arrived in the mail and their quotes were the lowest I found.

Here are some of the quotes I received (Unless otherwise noted the coverage amounts are as followed: Bodily Injury $50,000/$100,000 Property Damage $50,000 Compressive $100 Ded. Collision $500 Ded. Uninsured Motorist $30,000/$60,000)

Wawanesa – $1,149 – 1 Year
AAA – $1424 – Year (Property Damage $25,000 Uninsured Motorist $15,000/$30,000)
GEICO – $993-60 – 6 Months
Progressive – $842 – 6 Months
Mercury – $877.90 – 6 Months
21st Century – $1186.00 – 6 Months
Allstate – $772.92 – 6 Months
AIG – $818 – 6 Months ($25,000 Property Damage $50,000/$100,000 Uninsured Motorist)

Obviously I chose Wawanesa because they had the lowest rates. The day I received the quotes I mailed them a check so they would cover me right away. They give you the option of paying your premium in full or by making payments of 20% down and 8 payments for the remaining amount plus a service charge. A few days later a customer service representative had called, however I missed the call and called them back the next morning. I called them back and they asked me couple of questions regarding people who have lived at my address or have used my address to receive their mail. After I answered their questions I was told everything was fine and I had coverage with them effective the day I requested for it to begin. I should add that Wawanesa doesn’t need pictures of your car.

I took some time to look at California Department of Insurance’s web site http://www.insurance.ca.gov/ and found Wawanesa ranks among the best in complaints.

Overall the process to obtain insurance was simple and I would recommend getting a quote for coverage.

ezmerchants’s Full Review of The Wawanesa Mutual Auto Insurance Company

Anybody who complains about this insurance company is probably a horrible driver who wants full coverage insurance for $10 per month and a service you would get at a $5000 a night hotel and he still wants to be able to whine. And, when he files a claim he wants the insurance company to always pay, no questions asked, like it’s a free-for-all or something.

Low prices, excellent and fast service, what else can you ask for? They have very few customer complaints compared to other insurance companies according to most credit rating organizations and have a history dating back to 1896 originating from Canada. Wawanesa was awarded an A+ (superior rating) for its financial strength from A.M. Best Co, the world’s oldest and most authoritative insurance rating and information source. I checked the Better Business Bureau’s web site and it was amazing how few their complaints were (13 complaints in the last 3 years compared to other companies’ hundreds of complaints) and they were all resolved! I have been with them for more than 5 years now and never had any problems, and every single person I have referred to them, never had problems either. Wait, I actually did get upset with them one time and told them to cancel my policy. Then I started shopping around for auto insurance, and when I saw premiums like $2000 from esurance and GEICO compared to Wawanesa’s $400 yearly premium I called back very nicely and got my policy back!

Mariii2771’s Full Review of USSA Group Auto Insurance

I began using USAA eight years ago, when I married a military service-member. The rates are absolutely unmatchable with any other insurance company. In fact, when insurance companies call my house soliciting insurance, all I have to say is “I have USAA”, they tell me thank you and hang up. They know, and hopefully now you know, that if you are in the service, are married to a service member, have retired military parents, you may be entitled to the best coverage around.

You can obtain home-owner’s, renter’s, automobile, life, and health (although the health insurance is somewhat pricey, all health insurance is pricey these days, it is still comparable). You choose how you want to pay (monthly, quarterly, semi-yearly, yearly), and if you miss a payment by mistake, unlike other insurance companies who immediately put a cancellation notice in the mail, they very kindly send you a reminder notice.

I have had to make a claim on my insurance for a wind-storm which we had, causing trees to fall in our back yard and damage our swing-set and fence. We put USAA on notice, sent in our receipts, and, “no questions asked”, we got a check in the mail. It is the best service I have ever encountered. Also, I have a husband who collects cars, we are constantly calling and changing our service. Our calls are handled immediately, and within a couple of days, we receive the rate and policy change in the mail. I have never been happier with an insurance company.

The best is yet to come. . . Every year, at the end of the fiscal year, the company “tolls” its earnings, and we get a rebate (we received $200 last year). This is somewhat of a kick-back to customers. It’s gotten to where I look forward to my little “Christmas Bonus” from USAA to help with the holidays.

Do not hesitate to call and see if you qualify to become an insured. You won’t regret the decision.

CyndiA’s Full Review of USSA Group Auto Insurance

USAA is a full-service financial company for military members and families. It was for military officers ONLY in the beginning and included family members of officers. Now, it is all military plus family members.

My dad was an officer in the Navy, so I went with USAA on car insurance from the time I turned 18. That was really all I needed at the time, and I didn’t know much about finances. I just paid the bills for my car, and I tried to keep things between the white lines.

The first time I had to call on USAA was when a drunken maniac ran into my car and then got out screaming that I could have killed her baby who was not in a car seat. I knew that I was driving fine and that she crossed over and hit my car in the front, jerked away, hit me in the side wiping my front tire under the car, and then straightened up her car in her lane while my car totaled out in the ditch on the wrong side of the road. Fortunately, the policeman on the scene looked at the tire marks and saw that I had a point and didn’t cause the accident or almost kill that woman’s baby. Unfortunately, the driver of the other car did not have insurance. That was when I learned that I had an uninsured motorist claim with USAA. They paid to fix my car even though the driver of the other car was at fault.

My next car tragedy was when a tree fell on my car. Again, this was my 1968 Mustang, which was bought used at over 100,000 miles but the love of my life when I was 18 years old. This time, some “act-of-God” clause kicked in. If your car is just sitting there, and a tree falls on it, then USAA comes out and covers that. It’s not like you threw the tree on the car, but it’s not like they should have to pay for that kind of thing. Thank goodness . . . they do cover those things.

By the time I got married, I had a few miles on me and had learned to look around and make sure when it came to putting my money down. Although I checked around, I could not find a better deal than USAA. The company that took me through my teens with my Mustang was the best bet. They ran just a tad higher than some companies, but they had the track record and more comprehensive coverage. After getting hit by an uninsured motorist and having a tree fall on my car, I was not taking chances.

As a newly married person, I dreamed of getting the money to buy a house. I put money in USAA. They have mutual funds. Though I could and did make more money in stocks, the USAA money was solid and didn’t drop the way some of the high tech stuff did. I was lucky that I pulled most of the high earning stocks to get my house. The money left during the drop ran real bad in stocks but OK in USAA. They are conservative, so you don’t get super returns, but you don’t get soaked during the lean times either. I keep the money for the boys to go to college at USAA.

Once I bought the house, I got the home insurance through USAA. The roof leaked within 2 months. That should have been caught during the buy, but it wasn’t. USAA paid for the roof to be fixed. Again, they came to the rescue when I needed them. It was not a big deal. They came out, saw the leaks, and they paid to fix the roof.

Over the years (since 1978), I’ve used USAA. They are rock solid. The towing insurance has come in handy when I’ve had dead batteries or flat tires. They also were great to deal with the bigger issues I mentioned. The investment options are great. Though they don’t give the huge returns that some companies did in the early 90s, they don’t crash out like some of those did. They have a catalog to buy items, and I got my first video camera from USAA with a same-as-cash plan to spread out the cost. That really helped out when I was a young mom and wanted video of my babies. I could afford a camera, but it worked much better to pay that over several months.

My credit is USAA Visa. They were the first to give me a chance with credit. I’m good to pay my bills. Over the years, they have raised and raised the limit. I can credit up to 8K now, though I hope I would never need that much ahead. Still, it’s good to know that I can buy and not worry about it on the card.

When I bought my Harley this summer, USAA did need a couple of days to process that. I got local on that insurance, so I would say that they need to come up with some faster process for motorcycles. When you buy a bike, you want to bring it home the same day.

The web site has been a problem, though I have not really needed it. They require sign in but don’t give the exact number of member numbers. That sounds strange, but they include 00 before some of mine and some don’t have that. So, I didn’t know how to list my member number—with or without those zeros. Then, the password needed 6 to 12 typed in things with a combo of letters and numbers. I have a favored password that does not have numbers. Then, I have a password I like with all numbers. I can’t use either at USAA with the combo requirement. I would have to come up with a letter/number combo and remember it to use the site, which I have never been able to log in to anyway with the question on my member number and which digits to type and which not to type.

Really, I don’t need the web site with USAA. The phone number is right in my book, and they answer the phone and help out. They have mailings and even a magazine that is nice. I have used most of the services though I have not gone with the bank account. I like to use a local bank and not a bankcard. I would spend too much if I could stick a card in a machine and get money on the spot.

If you are in the military or if you are married to or the child of a military member—active or retired, then USAA is the way to go. You might shop around and get lower on insurance or higher on returns short-term for investments, but you would have to spend a lot of time to figure all that out and get it right. After 24 years with USAA, I would say that they really are the max. While I use a few other services along with USAA, they have the bulk of my money . . . and I feel very safe on that. If you are on the fence, then feel fine with USAA. They even have awards for great service. You might come out ahead now and then at other places, but you might get soaked too. That isn’t likely to happen with USAA.

I am a customer because of my dad’s military affiliation. He has no idea that I look at my affiliation with USAA as a legacy left by Dad. USAA is awesome. I have been with them about 10 years and have the following with them: auto, home, jewelry policy, life insurance, disability insurance, major medical insurance, checking account, savings account, home mortgage, brokerage account (okay, I’ve lost a bunch of $ lately but that ain’t there fault), several mutual funds, my long distance service, my isp service, my cell phone. I’ve used their moving service to help locate a realty agent, I’ve ordered merchandise from their catalogs, including a car. What’s cool is I could keep track of just about everything on their website. Their service is top notch, their attention to my needs is top notch…I actually can’t wait to get something in the mail from them as they always have good info to share to keep me an informed consumer. They rock!

“Unitrin Can’t Be Beat.”

I have had Unitrin since 2003. I haven’t had to deal with claims in awhile, which is always a positive thing! Anyway, when I did have to deal with Unitrin’s Claim process I didn’t have any problems. The Claims Department was pretty quick from what I can remember and I remain with Unitrin because they are affordably priced. I had been in a pretty bad accident in 2004 and I was racking up bills pretty quick. I was terrified that I was going to be financially ruined by the event. I wasn’t, Unitrin took care of everything, they were fast and friendly and I didn’t have to call them up a hundred times to deal with the issue. I am so satisfied that I plan to have Unitrin take care of my other insurance needs as well. Highly recommended, great services, great prices, they really can’t be matched by another company.

“I like Unitrin.”

They handled my claim quickly and fairly, and their quote was competitive for Los Angeles.

“Climbing Through the Passenger Door.”

The driver at fault, insured by Unitrin, was cited. Unitrin assigned an adjustor (Kim) that I had difficulty dealing with. She insisted I had to drive my vehicle because she did not want to pay rental fees. She did not care that the driver door would not open as a result of the collision and wanted me to continue climbing over the console from the passenger side. This also increased the back pain suffered in the accident. She had no problem with this issue or driving a car 200 miles to a medical appointment with a car out of alignment or having possible damage to the tire. My safety was a non-issue in her mind, only saving money mattered. She would not send me a copy of THEIR adjustors repair estimate, which was $250 higher than any other estimate I obtained at that time. I could not be reassigned to another adjustor. She demanded I deliver my car to the repair shop on a specific date, even though no appointment was scheduled and they could not start the work when she wanted. She attempted to give time quotas to the garage to obtain parts and well as perform the repair. She wanted to argue about everything. It is a very unpleasant experience. This company is very distasteful and we are just beginning. Perhaps they could read up on the definitation of professionalism and safety.

lemko’s Full Review of Erie Auto Insurance Group

Erie Insurance Group has perhaps the best car insurance anywhere. I have been with this company ever since I started driving back at age 17 under my Dad’s policy and have been with Erie under my own policy for the last thirteen years. The rates are far more reasonable and for superior coverage compared to its competitors.

Northeast Pennsylvania has relatively low car insurance rates compared to a lot of other regions. I was only paying $1,152 for full coverage on two Cadillacs – a 1989 Brougham and 1994 Deville.

When my employer wanted me to take a position in Philadelphia, I became very concerned. Philadelphia has perhaps the most exorbitant car insurance rates in the country. I’ve heard of people paying more in insurance installments than monthly payments on a car itself! Many factors contribute to Philadelphia’s awful rates. Nearly 50% of city drivers are either uninsured or underinsured. Many cars don’t carry a current registration or inspection. I can find many cars with inspection stickers from 1995 and have temporary tags for years. I don’t think it’s fair that responsible drivers should be penalized for the irresponsible ones, but I can’t think about “what if” and have to deal with “what is.”

When asking for quotes over the Internet for similar coverage Progressive quoted $2,669 for a year; Geico at $2,430; Electric Insurance Company at $3,330.00; and State Farm at a whopping $4,498! Prudential was so extravagant I won’t even embarrass them by posting their quote. I have a bulletproof driving record: no accidents and no tickets. Those competitor’s quotes sound more like somebody with a Ferrari Testarossa who drives like Dale Earnhardt and drinks like Dean Martin.

Erie’s quote was $1,772 – infinitely more reasonable than anybody else. I signed-up right on the spot! Sure, I could get a lower rate than that, even in Philadelphia, but only for the bare state minimum. Not only that, Erie’s representatives were very helpful and courteous and pointed out ways I could save money have the same coverage I had upstate.

When I made a claim several years ago when my parked Mercury Grand Marquis was damaged by a hit-and-run driver, Erie was responsive and promptly settled my claim. I had my car repaired within two weeks and was back on the road.

I don’t know how well they are with high-risk drivers – those with a few accidents, violations or DUIs. They may not even cover you. Another problem is that Erie outlets aren’t as numerous as its competitors and one may not be available near you. I didn’t think there were any in Philadelphia until I researched the Internet. They have a pretty good web page.

Anyway you look at it, Erie is a company that rewards good drivers and does not penalize you for where you live.

ShadowZone’s Full Review of Erie Auto Insurance Group

I have had Erie insurance since the day I started driving (long time ago) and I will never switch insurance. They really treat their insured’s as people and not a policy number, about a year ago I was hit by a guy with another insurance co, my insurance helped me with all information I needed to get through this, there were no life threatning injuries but bad enough. Erie called just to check and see how we were doing and if they could help us in any way, and to let them know if the gentleman that hit us did not have enough insurance and mine would. In the last 15 years of driving I (knock on wood) have had a clean driving record so I receive the prefered customer discounts from many well known insurance company’s such as State Farm, Geico, Progressive ect..

So I call for a price comparison because they say they can save me money and who now days wouldn’t like to save money. They can’t even come close to what I pay for full coverage they are hundreds over what I pay now, so when they give me the price I kinda chuckle and they ask what is so funny. I tell them what I pay and I have even had them ask for my insurance company’s phone number. With Erie insurance I have a no-fault accident, nothing will be held against me and they will not raise my rates, they offer towing for a very small amount a year, and they have different payment plans you don’t have to have a monthly payment. The people are friendly and will take time to answer any questions you may have, any problems and they will do their best to fix them. I can’t say enough, but at least call and compare what you pay with them, just tell them what you need and they will help. I have no plans to switch, I tell people all the time to at least hear what they have to say and go from their. They also have home insurance and much more, they have alot of discounts for more than 1 car or for house and car. Good luck!! Please give them a call and compare.

KaylaRaine’s Full Review of Erie Auto Insurance Group

I got my own insurance policy just two years ago when I was 21. I chose Erie because that is what my parents had. I can easily say that it was the best choice that I could have made.

I have always had great service with Erie and their prices are practically unbeatable. I recently moved from PA to VA and had no trouble transferring my insurance. All I had to do was call an Erie Agent in VA and she set everything up. She gave me a quote over the phone, told me that she would contact my former agent to get monies transferred, and send my papers in the mail.

Simple. About a week after I arrived at my new apartment in Falls Church, VA, I got my insurance papers, signed them, sent them back and got my new insurance card. Here’s the even better part…I moved from a medium sized town in PA to the D.C. Metro area and my car insurance actually went down almost $100!

Another great thing about Erie is that your rates will go down when you turn 24, not 25 like most companies. I have never been in an accident where I needed to contact Erie, but my dad was once and everything went smoothly. They took care of the problem quickly and efficiently.

Erie also offers a good price on Renter’s Insurance. I am only paying $114/year for $20,000 worth of coverage and when you get Renter’s Insurance through them, they give you a 5% discount on your car insurance. I’ve never come across a better deal with better service, so if you are in the market for new car insurance, you should definitely give Erie a try.
