psimon’s Full Review of The Allstate Home Insurance Company

This past Sunday, from about 3AM until way after lunch we had a really nasty storm blow through our area. Torrential rains, gale winds, thunder, the whole works. Lots of fun.

About 9AM, we noticed water dripping from the door frame of our upstairs bathroom. A sort time after that, we noticed the ceiling in the bathroom getting wet. Around 10:30, while having my coffee and reading a soggy newspaper, I had the joy of watching my patio glass table get blown over, and watched it shatter all over our paver deck. I got in the car and drove around the block to look at the back of the house, and noticed shingles missing over where the water was coming in. It was a fun day so far.

We realized the damage was really mounting up. Time to call the insurance company to see if they would cover it. I was expecting to hear that it was an act of God, and ‘too bad’! Boy was I wrong!

Allstate (of NJ) responded within an hour or so. Their claims folks were on the phone with us determining exactly what happened. An hour later, we got a call saying that someone would be out to check on the roof. By 4PM, a roofing company was out to our place. In what was still 20-30 mph winds, someone went up on the roof (2nd story) and made temporary patches to keep things from getting worse. I know I wouldn’t have gone up there then.

By Monday, they were on the phone with us telling us everything that the roofer had found (which was more than I realized), and that they were cutting a check to repair/replace everything! We were amazed. We couldn’t believe that they handled it that fast.

I am VERY impressed with the speed and helpfulness of the claims office. They were right there to help us, and keep things from getting worse. They cut the check in, what we thought, was record time. To us, the service was far better than we ever expected.

We sure are glad we are with the good hands people. I wish other services responded as efficiently and as quickly as Allstate. You can be sure, they have my vote as an excellent Home Insurance company.

An addendum…. The check showed up 3 days after we filed the claim! Sure can’t beat that!

I have dealt with a lot of different insurance companies in my lifetime and have come to realize that it isn’t necessarily the insurance company, but your agent that makes or breaks your opinion. My current Allstate agent has gone above and beyond for my family. Last winter here in Atlanta we were having terrible problems with ice on trees and power lines, there were huge outages all over the city and metropolitan areas. Our Allstate agent called us to make sure we were not impacted by the power outage and reminded us of our coverage and how we could take advantage of it. I can honestly say that I slept a lot easier knowing that should we be impacted by the storm we were covered for just about everything. It wasn’t the insurance that impressed me with Allstate, it was my agent.

One day a sheriff appeared at our front door. The very sight of a uniformed officer was shock enough, but when he held out papers he was serving on our young son, we were horrified.

Patrick? He must be mistaken, we exclaimed. Who could be suing our 11 year-old, and why?

Turns out that several years before, Patrick, then a third grader, had been playing touch football in the schoolyard during recess. During the game, one of the children fell down and broke his leg. Time had passed and the boy could remember the name of only one other child who had been playing. Yup, Patrick. Our son was being sued along with the school and the teacher who had been on duty.

The sheriff who served the papers was a kind man. I don’t recall the chain of events exactly, but at some point we invited him in, and, seeing our upset, he told us not to worry. “Contact your homeowners’ company; they’ll take care of everything,” he advised.

We got ahold of our son. Did he recall the accident? Vaguely. Did he know the boy? Yes, a little. Had the boy suffered any long term effects? Did he limp? No limp, Patrick said. No effects that he could see.

We later learned that the boy’s father is a lawyer. Did he see the statue of limitations running, and decide to put in his claim when he could? Did he need money for a new car? Luckily, we never had to be involved in any of those issues, because the sheriff was right. Miraculously, amazingly, our homeowners provider, Allstate, took care of everything.

It turns out that all sorts of actions by children are covered under homeowners insurance. A neighbor told of how her pre-school son decided to cut the screening out of all the porches on the neighborhood, and her homeowners policy covered the damage.

In our case, Allstate sent an employee to our home to talk with Patrick about what had happened. And that was it. At one point, we heard that the school had settled with the injured child, but we never even learned how Allstate had handled our part of the lawsuit.

Allstate made a difficult situation very easy, and did so graciously. That was a benefit of homeowners’ insurance that we never anticipated.

vemartin’s Full Review of Allstate Automobile Insurance Group

Insurance, it is a necessary evil. Car, life, accidental death, home, apartment, condo, and health, the list seems never ending but, again necessary in today’s ever increasing complex world of life and finance.

For auto and home, we are covered by Allstate Insurance Co., a concern we have been with for the last 10 years for Auto and renters or condo. We have had one agent throughout this period and he has served us well. We don’t really hear from him much, but on the rare occasion we have had to make a claim he has responded quickly and efficiently.

Allstate Insurance Co. is headquartered here in Illinois north of Chicago. In addition to aforementioned products, the company also offers Home, Life, Business, Motorcycle, Boaters, and Off-Road Vehicle/ Snowmobile Insurance. In addition Allstate Insurance Co. offers membership in the Allstate Motor Club.

I wish I could report that Allstate Insurance Co. offers up the best rates but the company does not; nonetheless we have stuck with the company because they have always been responsive to our needs. And they offer a safe driver discount as well as a multiple policy discount; e.g. we get a discount on our Auto policy because we also have a Renters/Condo as well. Other discounts include:

o Multiple auto discount
o Passive restraint (airbags) discount
o Antilock brakes
o Anti-theft device
o Good driving record
o Elder statesman (25 years or older)

Another reason we stay is because of our agent; though we don’t hear from him much, he has always returned my calls within 24 hours if I have a concern. The same cannot be said of other insurance companies we have dealt with.

The last claim we files some five years ago, was handled swiftly and without too much pain; our deductable was $250.00. Our then minivan was side swiped by another vehicle and had to be towed. Allstate Insurance Co. as promised, handled the towing charges from the scene and to the repair facility, and renting a car from Enterprise was hassle free. The repair facility had our minivan back to use in a week, and because the accident was not our fault, out rates did not go up. All-n-all, this claim proved to be a very agreeable transaction indeed.

Like I stated from the outset, insurance is a necessary evil, but we have always been in good hands with Allstate. True, our claims have been few and far between and nothing really major, but Allstate Insurance Co. has always come through for us.

I have been married for over twenty years and for the last 16, we have been insured by Allstate. In that time we have made only two claims ~ once when we were hit by a drunk driver over 14 years ago and then again last month.

To make a long story short, on July 3rd, a car came over two lanes and turned into my lane, coming straight at me! The ONLY thing I had time to do was turn the front part of the car to the right so that he would hit my side and not my daughters. That was it, I saw it coming, turned the wheel and he hit us!

He was driving a big off road vehicle which barley had any damage. My car did not fare so well. The front left side got crunched and my license and Saturn emblem got knocked off. Nobody got hurt and the air bags didn’t come out. We were able to move off to the side of the road. I took out the cell phone and called the police.

While we were waiting, I called my Allstate agent who told me to get a copy of the accident report, the other drivers name along with his license number and insurance information. He then gave me a number to call when I had all the information and told me he would call ahead and let them know.

The police arrived and we both tell our stories ~ fortunately, the other driver claimed responsibility so that was never an issue. Another policeman arrives walks around the cars checking out the damage. Then we are asked for our licenses, registration and insurance cards. This is when the kids states he has no insurance which upsets the policeman who lets him know that this is against the law, gives him a ticket and tells him to arrange for someone to come and drive his car home that DOES have insurance.

The policeman then gives me a copy of the accident report and tells me to call my insurance company immediately. THEN HE ASKS IF I AM SURE WE ARE OKAY AND DID I WANT HIM TO CALL MY HUSBAND FOR ME. I have no idea WHY he would need to call my husband since we were all okay and the car was drivable but he kept asking if we were okay and if we needed anything. He must be a husband and Dad.

When I get home I call the Allstate claim department and pass on all the information. He must ask me 5 more times if I am sure we are okay! He said that since everyone was fine and it was a Holiday, I should expect a call on Monday the 7th from the person assigned to my case.

To my surprise, I get a call on SATURDAY instead. The Allstate claims representative introduced herself and gave me a direct number to reach her should I have any questions. She had me go over the accident again so she could record it. She had a copy of my policy and told me that everything would be covered by Allstate and that they would go after the money from the uninsured driver.

She said they had a repair shop right on the Island that they deal with and that the repair work would be guarantee for the life of the car. We could however choose a different repair service if we wished. We went with the one on the Island.

The repairs came to just under $5,000 and all it cost us was a $100 deductible which is the FIRST thing paid when Allstae gets their money from the other driver.

Since they had to order the bumper, we had to wait a few days. We then took a short trip and when we got back we took it in. Because of the delay, the repair service already had a check from Allstate!

The repairs took 8 days and during that time Allstate paid for a standard size rental car. They called ahead to the rental company and all of I had to do was come in, pick a car and sign for it. When I was through with the car, we dropped it off, had a walk around and we were done.

All in all, a very satisfying claim!

My mother has an Allstate premium for her home. While visiting out-of-state, she had a flood. A neighbor checking her home saw the damage and called us. I called Allstate. They inspected the damage. I requested that most of the damage be repaired BEFORE she returned to her home, since she has allergies. The carpet and foam were removed from the entire house. The walls were painted. When I went back to her home with her, we selected carpet. Allstate allowed her to get the carpet from ANY store she wished, since there was a time factor, I wanted to be there when it was installed. All repairs were completed in a neat, timely manner. Any person we spoke to from Allstate was kind and helpful. Furthermore, they DID NOT increase her premium. I would recommend this company to ANY senior citizen. They are honest when they advertise and say:
“You Have A Friend in Allstate”
